Letter to my students

I am putting a question to all of you: Don't you deserve more? Are you not good for more? Then why not want more? Why not take it as a challenge to get at least 20 more marks in math-2 than what you have got this semester in math-1? Doesn't it hurt your self-pride when people in other colleges think that you guys are good only for this much? Don't you want to prove to the rest of the world that you are better than them?

I agree i have many weaknesses. I am teaching this course for the first time. I need to plan and construct better lectures, give examples whenever i discuss something theoretical and abstract, choose better examples which only increase in degree of complexity, relate it to your present level of knowledge and understanding, check assignments on time, plan tests and presentations well ahead, provide solutions and other help in time, help you to assimilate and apply the content. I really apologize to all of you for not having done a satisfactory job in all the above areas. I assure you that i would take into account all your criticisms and feedback this semester. I promise to you that i will try my level best to make classroom experience much more beneficial to you both in the form of learning and marks. But i cannot do these things without your cooperation. We together need to work hard to achieve our target.

I know some of you don't find me worthy of respect which you would give to a good teacher. Taking outside help is not an issue. You should take it if you think it helps you. But then you should also make it your psychology to attach almost equal level of value and sincerity to college lectures for your own benefit. Your attitude can make college classes much more useful to you. A true economist allocates resources in the form of time and effort so long as the addition in gain is more than addition in cost. Please reassess the addition in gain which the college classes could bring to you if you have a little persisting cooperative attitude and also the addition in loss as a result of not being able to have relaxation and fun outside the classroom given the fact that you are already investing your resources in tuition.

Please do not shy away from assignments, presentation and tests. All these are supposed to provide you opportunities for practice. I will make sure that i return your checked assignments with suggestions very next day of your submission. We would have a regular attendance and far more frequent assignments, tests and class presentations this semester.

I have full confidence that all of you guys can do way better just with a slight positive addition to your focus and determination. Yes i would get praise for your better performance but i would value the bonding with you people much more than anything. I want to feel proud of your achievements and i want all of you to feel proud of yourself. God bless you all and i know it is very tacky to say but i love you all.

Please don't hesitate a bit to write your criticisms, feedback and suggestions in comments to this post. It would not hurt or help your internal scores or my affection for you guys even by an iota.

Expecting and promising full cooperation.
Your Math Teacher.
